H.E. DR.TAYSEER SMADI

FORMER MINISTER OF THE MINISTRY OF PLANNING IN JORDAN

Dr. Tayseer Al-Smadi, has a profound experience in the area of sustainable development. Previously he served as a Senator, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, Minister of Public Sector Reform, and Minister of Agriculture . In addition, he has served as Chairman of the Civil Service Council, SG of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, as well as a Director of Policies and Studies Department at the same ministry. Before that, he worked at the Research Department/Central Bank of Jordan.

Dr. Al-Smadi has also served as a chairman of many institutions; including Islamic International Arab Bank, National Petroleum Company, Jordanian Press Corporation, Arab Industrial Engineering Industries, and Agricultural Credit Corporation. Further, he served on the board of directors of many companies; including Arab Bank Group, Arab Bank of Tunisia, Jordan Investment Board, Central Electricity Generating Company, Industrial Development Bank and Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation. In addition, Al-Smadi served on the board of directors of the Association of Banks in Jordan and Jordan Department of Statistics. Moreover, he served on the Board of Trustees of Jordan Hashemite Fund for Human Development and the Consultative Council for Ajloun Governorate. Furthermore, he was a member of the Education Board in Jordan. He also worked for a long time in the field of economic and administrative consultation; he was the CEO of First Strategieh Consulting and Al-Shamal Consulting firms.

Al-Smadi holds Ph.D. degree in economics, with emphasis on international trade and economic development, form Utah State University, M.S. degree in Economics from University of Jordan, and B.A degree in Economics from Yarmouk University (all with Excellent rating) . Dr. Al-Smadi is the author of many papers and studies in economics in Arabic and English. Further, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from Utah State University.
